May 8th Mousehold Heath

Dawn at Mousehold Heath this morning
I reluctantly got out of bed for another dawn chorus this morning. This time, I have joined Will, David and a couple of other Mousehold regulars for a dawn chorus walk. It was still dark and the moon was still out when we began our walk at 4:15am. A cacophony of singing blackbirds and robins filled the air with the odd goldcrest and wren trying their best to be heard over their din during this early start. But eventually, as the morning progressed, it was the wrens along with the blackcaps that truly dominated the soundscape.

The Moon

Norwich this morning
There was good mix of woodland birds adding their voices to this morning's chorus. We heard; chiffchaffs, chaffinches, robins, blackbirds, blue tits, great tits, coal tits, wrens, blackcaps, long-tailed tits, tawny owls, song thrushes, goldcrests, treecreepers, greenfinches, house sparrows, woodpigeons and some whitethroats, which were singing at St James' Hill. I was surprised not to hear any willow warblers today and a little disappointed that the wood warbler that had been reported here in the last two days was nowhere to be found.
