Aug 23rd Mousehold Heath

Heather at Mousehold Heath
It was a hot day, but it seemed to be too hot for butterflies. I was helping Will the warden at Mousehold Heath with another butterfly survey. It wasn't as successful as our previous survey though. We only managed to count 21 individuals today. This included 3 small whites, 2 large whites, 3 green-veined whites, 1 small copper, 1 gatekeeper, 1 red admiral, 1 common blue, 1 purple hairstreak, 1 meadow brown and 1 speckled wood (though I was sure I had spotted two other speckled woods). They weren't very photogenic today, so these are the only photos I managed to take this afternoon.
