July 18th Mousehold Heath

Its Moth Night!!!
It is Moth Night at Mousehold Heath tonight. Despite only the eight regulars turning up for this event (including me, Dad and Will), the conditions were perfect and the moth trap attracted a ton of these night flying insects. There were moths everywhere, many of them landed on us or clumsly bumped into parts of our body with a small thump. In the seven years these events have been running, we have clocked up 210 species of moth and new species turn up every year. Tonight, we had a few species that were new to the site which is great news for Mousehold Heath.

Here are some of the highlights from tonight...

Small Emerald

Buff Ermine (both photos)
Buff Arches

Large Emerald
Rosy Footman
Common White Wave
Riband Wave
The Snout

Swallow-tailed Moth
True Lover's Knot

Beautiful Hook-tip
