Roydon Common |
It has been a bit of a bad day out today. Mum and I went to Roydon Common this morning hoping to find black darter dragonflies. It was a disaster! It was raining on and off throughout our visit, and when it rained, it was enough to soak our clothes. On top of that, we also got a bit lost looking for a way to the ponds that the dragonflies can be found. Once we finally got to one of the ponds, there was a short spell of sunshine and a few damselflies and dragonflies were on the wing, but no black darters. However, there was another problem. My camera was playing up again with moments when the lens mechanics decide to malfunction now and then. I thought I had sorted the problem out, but it seems I was wrong. Thankfully, I was still able to use it for the most part.

Lapwings, Ruffs and a Dunlin |
Roydon Common was a complete nightmare and the pair of us were feeling quite peeved. So instead of trying the back up plan of going to Dersingham Bog to try and find the black darters there, we decided to travel to Titchwell and to see what was about there. The weather improved and, though the camera was playing up slightly, we felt a little bit better, but only by a little. We were seeing plenty of waders, mostly ruffs (and most of them being juveniles), lapwings, godwits, a few dunlin, ringed plovers, golden plovers, a grey plover, curlews, redshanks, a couple of common sandpipers, the odd avocet and also plenty of ducks such as teal, wigeon and shelducks. I also saw a kestrel, a flock of linnets, a distant bearded tit and little egrets. Nothing incredibly special, but still a good haul nonetheless.
