Oct 16th Mousehold Heath

Orange skies this evening!
The sky was rather orange this evening due to dust from the Sahara creating an eerie visual in the heavens. This produced a spectacular sunset over Norwich. I quickly ran outside and took some photos of it with my new camera, though trees and buildings did hide the sun from view when I took these, sadly.

Moth night in the wind!
Around the same time the sky went orange, strong winds suddenly picked up. This is more than likely a by-product of Storm Ophelia that's been causing havoc in Ireland. The winds here in Norfolk were not as bad as it is over there, but it still wasn't exactly preferable conditions to do a moth evening at Mousehold Heath tonight. However, we decided to set up anyway at a clearing behind Zak's. It was no surprise then, that the event was a bit of a disappointment. We only managed to catch a few light brown apple moths and one moth we believe is some kind of ranunculus (possibly feathered, but most likely large) and that was it. The generator even cut out on us at one point, but we managed to get it running again after a few moments fixing it in the pitch black.
Large Ranunculus?
