Dec 13th Thorpe Marshes

The Strumpshaw Christmas walk at Thorpe Marshes this morning
For the second week running, the Reception Hide is closed. This time it was not a power cut but the annual Strumpshaw Fen Christmas party. This morning, I joined Strumpshaw's staff and volunteers for a walk around Thorpe Marshes. It was really muddy and a bit waterlogged in places, but we managed to see a few snipe flying over us, a marsh harrier, a great crested grebe, tufted ducks, pochard, a heron, cormorants, gadwall, mute swans, plenty of gulls and we even had a brief glimpse of a bearded tit, which was apparently the first time one has been recorded here.

Party Time!
After the walk, we met up with more of our colleagues at Roxley Hall for the Christmas meal. As well as eating, we also listened to talks and we all formed teams and competed in a quiz. It was nice to meet up with everyone again and to top it all, my team ended up winning the quiz!
