Caterpillar Diaries (Part 6)

Skin Change number 3!
It is all change today. Half of my caterpillars have began shedding their skins for a third time now. They have been looking rather orange and spotty lately and some of them have been clinging to the side of the box that they are in, doing very little. Many of the 25 caterpillars were still active, refusing to join their siblings with the change and were acting like small human children that insist in not going to bed or eat their greens. I expect they will join them eventually. So far, at least two have now crawled out of their old skin sowing off their new colour scheme. Though it does appear as if they have shrunk a little bit during the latest shed, they are starting to look green with yellow ping-pong-like balls or spots attached to their bodies. They are now like how emperor moth caterpillars are suppose to look like as featured in my books.
Their new home!
And while the caterpillars are getting a new skin, my parents and I have been busy building them a new home. I've bought them a new box, which is more of a bucket bin with a lid and is not only big enough for them but also for bramble branches as well. That's right, they will no longer just be able to crawl around the bottom of a box, but can also climb branches just like their wild cousins. To keep the branches fresh for longer, they've been placed into a jar of water and are threaded through holes in the lid that were drilled into and plugged up with blue tac to prevent my caterpillars from falling in and drowning. I've moved a few of the more lively individuals into their home, along with the freshly emerged pair. I hope they will be ok in there?
