Cley today |
There was a bird count race going on at Cley today, but I wasn't taking part. I was just here for a visit with Mum for the first time for 2019. We decided to do our own bird count race thing just for fun. It was a little chilly and blustery, but at least it wasn't raining. There were plenty of black-headed gulls, teal, wigeon, a few shelducks, gadwall and mallards. Small flocks of black-tailed godwits, avocets and lapwing made up the numbers for the waders out on the pools, chased up by a few marsh harriers who were constantly soaring over the far side. The highlight of the day was a great white egret that made a short stop over at one corner of Pat's Pool, slightly distant and obscured by reeds but I still managed a few photos of it. Adding to our bird count list we also had; brent geese, Canada goose, redshank, curlew, starling, skylark, herring gull, great black-backed gull, carrion crow, woodpigeon, house sparrow, blue tit and Mum saw a pintail, but I missed it!
