March 3rd Mousehold Heath

The Bandstand at Mousehold Heath
I feel like an Arctic explorer and I'm exploring an unfamiliar landscape in a place that I know very well. The snow is still with us as a fresh layer fell overnight to replenish what remains from Wednesday. Today, I decided it was about time for another walk in it, but this time to Mousehold Heath. It is a much longer walk to get to Mousehold compared to the two parks that I've been to earlier this week, but it was worth it. The heath was absolutely beautiful in the snow. The gorse was especially romantic in a frosted dusting of white with the odd yellow flowers peeking through. Icicles hung from the eaves and guttering of the buildings surrounding the site, some being very long and sharp. The two ponds of the heath now completely frozen. It was like a landscape I haven't seen for years. A cold and relatively quiet place if it wasn't for the many human and dog footprints and the sight and sound of families messing around on sledges.

Sledging at St James' Hill
Speaking of families messing around on sledges, there was nowhere more perfect for this activity than at St James' Hill. It was packed with people of all ages sliding down the slopes with the iconic buildings of Norwich towering behind them. Though it was rather slippery underfoot while walking along the top of the hill, smoothened by the constant sliding going on all around me, the views were spectacular. The city has never looked so beautiful!
